The Self-Leadership Assessment® (SLA) is designed
to help you determine where you stand relative to self-leadership.
For it to yield the desired result, you must take responsibility
for the totality of your experiences and actions. Having
an honest aspiration to become all that you’ve
been created to be will help you keep an open mind and
take whatever steps may be necessary to correct deficiencies.
SLA is based on the book The Star Principle: A Faith-Based
Approach to Achieving Your Full Potential. It is important
to read the entire book before completing the assessment.
The questions are based on topics covered in the book.
Instructions for Completing the Self-Leadership
Assessment®
The SLA is divided into five sections, each
one representing a dimension of
The Star Principle.
Each section is composed of five statements.
There are four possible responses to each statement:
True, Somewhat True, Not Sure, and Not True. Check one
response per statement. It is important that you respond
to all of the statements. Each response has been assigned
a number of points:
True = 20 points
Somewhat True = 10 points
Not Sure = 0 points
Not True = -20 (negative 20 points)
If you check “True” on all the statements
in a section, you will have a total of 100 points. You
will have 50 points if you check “Somewhat True”
and 0 points if you check “Not Sure.” Your
total will be -100 if you check “Not True”
on all five statements in a section.
How to Interpret Your Result
Your responses will fall into one of three categories:
Ready (500 points), Somewhat Ready (250 to 499 points),
and Not Ready (0 to 249 points). [Depending on where
a result falls on the above ranges, the text associated
with each of the three categories should appear with
the result.]
Self-Leadership Assessment®
Please check a box for each of the following statements
Section One: Self-Discovery
*The Self-Leadership Assessment® is based on
the book "The Star Principle: A Faith-Based Approach
to Achieving Your Full Potential.
** It is important to read the entire book before completing
this assessment. The questions are based on topics covered
in the book.
Ready (500 points): Since the statements mainly
reflect the irreducible level of self-leadership you
must attain to achieve your full potential, you must
score 100 points in every section to be in this category.
Your chart should be an exact replica of the one above.
You have been saved through faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ. You’ve learned how to advance your faith
and future by trusting, meditating on, confessing,
and applying the Word of God. You’ve cultivated
a character that is beyond reproach. Your values line
up with Scripture and you’re not afraid to practice
them.
People around you can testify to the beauty of Christ
that radiates through your speech, action, behavior,
and presence. Irreproachability of character doesn’t
imply that you never make mistakes. But when you do,
you take responsibility for your action and immediately
take corrective measures.
Somewhat Ready (250 to 499 points): You
excel in some areas but have a few deficiencies. Your
first step is to identify these deficiencies and recognize
them as areas of opportunity for improvement.
The most important aspect of your readiness is salvation.
If you’re not absolutely sure you’re saved,
you may never achieve your full potential. Far worse,
you stand in danger of eternal condemnation.
To experience salvation now, ask the Lord Jesus Christ
to come into your life to be your Lord and Savior.
Believe in your heart that He died for your sins and
God raised Him from the dead. Confess your sins before
Him and ask for forgiveness. He will hear your prayer
and come into your life. (See Romans 10:9-10; John
3:16; John 1:12.) Next, find a Bible-believing church
where you will be taught the Word of God.
If you have opportunities for improvement in any
other area, conduct a root-cause analysis to determine
the origin of the problem. The weakness you’ve
identified may be symptomatic of a more severe, underlying
problem. Begin your analysis by probing your life
for clues. Ask yourself the following questions: What
action did I take or not take that got me where I
am? What behavior facilitated my drive in the wrong
direction? Who or what else contributed to my getting
here? How long have I been in this position? What
can I do differently in the future? Who or what can
facilitate my movement in the right direction?
The answers to the above questions will help you
develop a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) to facilitate
your desired improvement. Your CAP should include
Specific, Measurable, Aligned, Realistic, and Time-bound
(SMART) goals.
A sample action plan and additional details on next
steps are provided in the book The Star Principle:

Not Ready (0 to 249 points): You’re
not yet in a position to receive God’s purpose
for your life. Now that you know where you stand,
you can make a decision as to what steps you need
to take to get ready.
The most important thing is to establish a relationship
with God the Father through Jesus Christ, His Son.
You do this by confessing and repenting of your sins
and inviting Christ into your heart to be your Lord
and Savior. Your sins will be wiped out and He will
give you a new life (1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
To help grow your spiritual life, find a good church
where you will be taught the Word of God. Just as
your body cannot function without food, your spiritual
life will suffer without the Word.
